Hip Flexor Strain
The hip flexor group of muscles (psoas major/ minor) assist with the upward movement of your leg and knee.
An injury occurs when these muscles are torn or stretched too far. This can occur by having weak muscles or forgetting to warm up adequately, having stiff muscles or even falling awkwardly.
The athletes that may develop hip flexor problems is multifaceted as your hip flexor are involved in many of the powerful body movements. Sprinting in any sport, jumping in basketball or kicking a football all involve these powerful muscles.
So if you struggling to play your favourite sports, and is it a drag not being able to run without limping and eventually hobbling to a complete stop or worse not even starting.
Have the painkillers and anti inflammatories the foam rolling and massage all failed you. The strange aspect to this injury is that it migrates easily to affect many other issues like your groin, hamstrings, even low lumbar and sacroiliac issues.
Pain and swelling dissipates with rest only to return with activity. If you answered yes, then you recognise that trying to overcome this problem on your own is very difficult. The very nature of this injury can be very difficult to pinpoint the causative factors.
Hip Flexors injury is a slow injury to heal and it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where the problem is.
Many factors can add to this condition, such as internal tibial rotation, genu varum ( being bow legged) foot pronation, excessive growth spurts during teenage years in unison with high sporting activities, both high and low arches, poor lifting techniques in the gym and of course the three T’s too much, too soon, too fast.
